Van der Kamp is one of California’s oldest Pinot Noir vineyards and located near the highest point on Sonoma Mountain. At 1400 ft. elevation, van der Kamp vineyard sits above the frost line and experiences its own microclimate. Pinot Noir thrives on van der Kamp’s north facing bench with a cooling influences and an abundance of sun. These dramatically sloping vineyards are farmed using organic and Biodynamic practices, some blocks dry-farmed. The patchwork of soil types includes loam with volcanic material and decomposed river bed.
An intensely perfumed nose of raspberry, cocoa, sandalwood and bay leaf. Spicy entry of clove and sarsaparilla lead into a juicy, berry acidity. Forrest floor earthiness and a subtle vanilla note add complexity to the palate. The classic van der Kamp tannins are balanced by a full, rich finish. A structured, Old World-styled Pinot Noir that expresses the complexity of mature vines.
